Will Fisher (Applied)
Running for Congress- House Of Representatives in TX
Who am I?
I am a proud Texan living with my wife, Morgan, and two daughters, Tatum and Marley, in Flower Mound, Texas. My mother, a teacher, and father, a businessman, worked hard to provide for me and my five siblings. As a youth I participated in scouting, eventually earning the rank of Eagle Scout. In school I excelled, graduating as high school valedictorian. After high school, feeling an urge to spend some time serving others, I went on a two-year mission trip to Brazil, learning Portuguese and Spanish along the way, and learning a lot about myself in the meantime. After college, I continued to Law School at the University of Oregon, where I decided to become a business lawyer.
Today I am an in-house attorney for a steel company based in North Texas, and my wife, Morgan, is a registered nurse. As an attorney, my legal experience has prepared me to legislate responsibly. I enjoy advocating for my clients, and have committed myself to represent the people of the 26th Congressional District as their congressman in the US House of Representatives.
What am I fighting for?
I'm running to fight for the health and prosperity of the American family, which is in the most precarious position it’s been in generations. While the cost of living is skyrocketing, low wages, insurmountable healthcare costs, and stifling student loan interest rates present major obstacles. As a result, hardworking folks are hesitant to start families, buy homes, save for college, and save for retirement.
The "American Dream" promises success to those who work hard. But many find this to be untrue; indeed a fairytale. Working 50 hours a week, these Americans struggle to afford the basics taken for granted by their parents' generation: a starter home, car, savings account and basic healthcare. Many young people can't afford to raise a family with these challenges, so they don't, and the challenges facing minority Americans, immigrants, and our LGBTQ communities are discouraging.
Democrats once fought for economic prosperity. Our values, when championed, delivered the American worker out of the sweatshop and into real opportunity. Over the course of a generation, families went from sending children to work to sending them to school, from living on a dirt floor to walking the hallways of America's universities.
However, in today's Information Revolution, we've become complacent, as jobs are replaced by automation and e-commerce, and we must return to the fight for economic opportunity. Policies that help the American worker, whose productivity has doubled over the past 30 years, to benefit from that growth are simply modern, fair and common sense.
My DFA Values
As a modern democrat, I am committed to bringing moral leadership to Congress and fighting for our shared values of equality and opportunity for all Americans, ensuring that women, minorities, and LGBTQ Americans are protected from employment and housing discrimination nationwide, and fighting for common sense support of immigrants.
I am passionate about universal healthcare and ensuring that every American has the care they need, when and where they need it, and protecting a woman's right to make her own healthcare decisions. I am confident that we can employ universal healthcare through a single-payer model. To educate the world on the savings created under single-payer healthcare, I created a video that has been viewed over 25,000 times and can be viewed at www.bit.ly/wfsinglepayer.
As a father, I am committed to working to leave a world to my daughters that is a more fair, just, and equitable place than it is today.
